After several number changes this class 7 steam locomotive were taken in by the SAR , AS ONE OF 32 , THAT WERE USED ALL OVER SA, AFTER THE 3 RAILWAY AGENCIES , OPERATING AT THE TIME, BECAME THE SAR IN 1912 . This is the number plate that belonged to steam locomotive DR 973 , THAT SERVED IN SWA as well ,and were GIVEN THIS NUMBER BY THE SAR IN 1912.Rare and historical ,as there were wars raging in SA AND SWA, in which this steam locomotive did duty.A must for steam collectors. You will find some of them parked at locations , like the Anglo Boer oorlog museum etc.Where DR 973 FINALLY ENDED UP, I do not know, but probably in SWA SOMEWHERE. For the sake of clarity, these steam locomotives were numbered and re-numbered , by their previous owners , until the SA RAILWAYS , finally took over and gave them their last numbers, as per this one.
