1927 Union Defence Force Empire Day Fitchat Cup Medallion

The Union Defence Force was established in 1912. Then in 1957 it was renamed to the South African Defence Force.

No 2 District was based in the Eastern Cape. Empire Day was the 24th of May, celebrating Queen Victoria's birthday, this started in 1902 and was celebrated until the 1950's.

The Fitchat Cup was a prestigious award presented to the best shooting team in the UDF. The Cup was contested annually by military units from various regions, the winner being the team with the highest aggregate score in the shooting competition.

The Fitchat Cup was donated by Colonel Fitchat, it was first awarded in 1927. This medallion was awarded to G.D.R.A LT. H.W.Will
