THE 1936 GEOFFREY HEARN FANTASY CROWN - RESTRUCK This coin is proof or proof-like, and has a unique gold colour toning The eldest child of George V succeeded to the throne as King Edward VIII, but abdicated on the 10th of December 1936 to marry Wallis Simpson before he was actually crowned. A fantasy coin was then struck by the Franklin Mint Ltd without government authorization, and was attributed as the 1954 Geoffrey Hearn Series. The Franklin Mint returned the original dies to Mt Geoffrey Hearn on the 2nd of June 1977, and in 1984 Richard Lobel purchased the original dies and struck more coins in 1984. In the 1990's, more pieces were struck, mostly in cupro-nickel. Mintage of the 1990's restrike are unknown.
