1940-B Germany 10 Reichspfennig – KM#101

A desirable 1940-B Germany 10 Reichspfennig, catalogued as KM#101, struck at the Vienna Mint (mint mark B) in zinc. Introduced in 1940 as wartime demands redirected strategic metals towards military production, the 10 Reichspfennig was struck in zinc instead of the previously used bronze. The obverse features the German national eagle above a wreath enclosing the period emblem, while the reverse displays the denomination flanked by oak leaves and the date. These zinc issues are an important part of Germany's wartime coinage and are widely collected for their historical significance and distinctive appearance.

Due to the reactive nature of zinc, surviving examples frequently exhibit oxidation, corrosion, and surface deterioration. Well-preserved pieces are considerably scarcer than their original mintages suggest, making these coins popular with collectors of German, World War II, and world coinage.
