1950's  Van Riebeeck Coffee Replica ( Ducat 1769) one of 12  

Part of a series of 12 replicas of coins that historically circulated at the Cape of Good Hope during successive periods of Dutch and British occupation. These replicas were distributed by the Van Riebeeck coffee brand in South Africa and one of them was included in every tin of coffee.

The reverse of each is marked "Van Riebeeck Replika" These were packed in tins of van Riebeeck instant coffee. Issued in conjunction with the 1952 Jan van Riebeeck festival in Cape Town which opened on 13 March 1952 and was officially proclaimed as Africa's version of the Crystal Palace Empire Exhibition that was held in London in 1851.
