DESCRIPTION
A collectible South African silver commemorative crown issued in 1952 to mark the 300th anniversary of Jan van Riebeeck's arrival at the Cape of Good Hope in 1652.
This large commemorative crown was struck during the final year of the reign of George VI and remains a popular issue among collectors of South African and Commonwealth coinage.
The obverse features the portrait of King George VI by T.H. Paget with strong remaining detail and visible original mint luster. The reverse, designed by Marion Walgate, depicts the Drommedaris entering Table Bay with Table Mountain in the background. Ship detail, legends, and the 5S denomination remain sharp and well defined.
Original silver toning is visible on the reverse, adding to the coin's collector appeal. The historic VOC monogram is also incorporated into the reverse design.
CONDITION
In the seller's opinion, the coin falls within the About Uncirculated range (approximately AU55AU58) based on visible luster retention, sharp detail, and limited signs of circulation.
