1953 Silver Southern Rhodesia Crown. Cecil John Rhodes Centenary. Great condition.
The 1953 Southern Rhodesia Crown is a 50% silver commemorative coin celebrating the 100th anniversary of Cecil Rhodes' birth (1853-1953) and Queen Elizabeth II's Coronation. It features Rhodes' bust with combined coats-of-arms for Southern Rhodesia, Northern Rhodesia and Nyasaland on the reverse and a youthful portrait of the Queen by Mary Gillick on the obverse. The coin features incuse lettering on the edge: "1853 1953 OUT OF VISION CAME REALITY". Issued during the formation of the Federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland, making it a key piece of colonial African history.
