Haggie Corporate History

•The Haggie family manufactured rope in UK since 1775

•Ian Haggie born 10 Sep 1917 Newcastle-upon-Tyne, England

•1921 - Came to South Africa with parents .

•1921 - Gordon Haggie,  Ian's father start s Haggie, Son and Love Ltd

•1936 -  Ian Haggie  joins Haggie, Son and Love (Aged 18)

•WWII -  Ian Haggie served in Royal Air Force  (North Africa)

•1954 - Became joint MD of African Wire Ropes (AWR), resulting from the merger of Haggie, Son and Love (1936) and Rand Ropes

•1954  onwards, cheques signed by Ian Haggie

•1960  - Ian Haggie became sole MD of AWR

•1971 - AWR name changed to Haggie Rand Ltd

•1977 -Ian Haggie retired as CEOI

•1985 – Ian Haggie honorary doctorate from WITS

•1990 - Served as trustee of World Wildlife Fund of SA and The Green Trust / Appointed as "Prior of the Order of St John" in South Africa

•1999 - Haggie Rand acquired by Anglo American

•A book "Nerves of Steel" by Rex Gibson, describes the Haggie Group
