An attractive 1964 Guatemala 10 Centavos, catalogued as KM#262 and struck in .720 silver during the Republic of Guatemala period.
The obverse features the Guatemalan national coat of arms, including the quetzal perched above the scroll bearing the historic date 15 de Septiembre de 1821, surrounded by the legend REPUBLICA DE GUATEMALA. The date 1964 and silver fineness 0.720 appear below.
The reverse depicts the impressive Monolith of Quiriguá, one of Guatemalas celebrated ancient Maya monuments, with the denomination 10 CENTAVOS alongside and MONOLITO DE QUIRIGUA below.
The 1964 issue was the final year of this KM#262 type. With a mintage of approximately 964,259 pieces, it had a substantially smaller issue than the preceding dates in the series. Struck at the Guatemala Mint, the coin contains 72% silver and is a particularly appealing piece for collectors of Central American, Guatemalan and world silver coinage.
