GOLD PF 1969 R2 OF PURE GOLD
– Becoming Scarce A PF 1969 Gold R2 –
A Non-circulating PF Coin in excellent condition, with beautiful fine details and high points.
There were originally R8000 minted in PF, but which have become scarcer and scarcer, unfortunately due to the large amount which have been sent to smelt. These Gold R2s were the predecessors to the 1/4 Oz Krugerrands.
Historically and of interest - the design on the reverse of the coin, being the Springbok (designed by Coert Steynbergs,) was originally intended for the Union 5 Shilling - but was then used as the design for the Gold Rand Coins, which were issued in what became the Republic after independence.
This Gem of a coin is a fabulous Gold Investment, as the Gold R2 are well-known internationally, and are as such very liquid and easily traded.
These Gold R2s belong to the category of "affordable coins for Gold investors", and are very popular - given that they usually command a premium above the bullion price, of late, it has been predicted that this premium over bullion could escalate exponentially, due to the coins' increasing rarity, the spikes in the bullion price, together with the number of people preferring to invest in gold as a safeguard against inflation. The coin weights 7.99 grams at Gold .9167 and equates to 7.32 grams of pure gold.
