This 1970 South African 50 Cent coin is part of the early Republic decimal series introduced after the country adopted decimal currency in 1961.

The reverse features a beautiful trio of indigenous flowers Agapanthus, Calla Lily, and Bird of Paradise designed by T. Strydom. The obverse carries the Republic-era coat of arms, designed by Tommy Sasseen.

Struck in nickel, this coin represents the first-generation Republic coinage (19651989) and was used widely during the 1970s and early 1980s. It remains a staple collectible for South African numismatists interested in post-Union issues.
