Cornelis Jacob Langenhoven was born on 13 August 1873. He was a prominent Afrikaans writer, poet and journalist. His is known as 'die Vader van Afrikaans' for his efforts to establish and gain official acceptance of the language. In 1918 he wrote the words for the national anthem, 'Die Stem van Suid-Afrika'.
