1974 Phillipus Petrus Deetlefs Limited Edition Muscat D`Alexandrie Dessert Wine 375ml

In 1974, two winemakers from Breedekloof entered into a friendly wager. One claimed it was impossible to mature a Muscat dAlexandrie for any length of time. The other winemaker believed otherwise. In 1999 Deetlefs first released this extremely unique wine to the public, in 375ml bottles in a sealed canister. This was when first I tasted and subsequently bought two bottles of this special wine, and it has been ageing in my cellar since.  The wine is still in the original sealed canister.

After this initial release, and because of the huge demand for this limited wine, the wine was removed from the general market.  Deetlefs designed new labels and packaging, and has since been releasing only a few of these bottles annually.
