Sealed 1974 uncirculated S A Mint pack with 8 coins.
With the denominations from the silver R1, (with a 15gr weight and a silver content of 80%), down to the ½ cent, of which only 20 000 sets were minted.
It is observed that the R1 and some of the bronze coins show some toning/platina, a natural chemical reaction between the metal and the environment, which occurs over time when exposed to moisture, air and light. It is mostly due to these transparent holders often not sealing properly, allowing moisture to come in over a long period of time, in this instance over the past 55 years.
It is a hallmark of authenticity and age.
For some collectors these toning/platina coins may aesthetically be pleasing and often significantly increase coins premium.
