Rarities & Special Varieties

Even though the Silver Jubilee coin is fairly common overall, there are a few rarities and peculiar varieties collectors watch for:

  • Mint error / mule coin: A 1977 50c that has the normal Coat of Arms reverse rather than the Jubilee reverse (i.e. the wrong back for that year). These are extremely rare (only a handful known).

  • Proof specimens: The proof-version coins are scarcer.

  • Uncirculated in mint sets: These are a middle ground between proofs and normal circulation. Better condition, less wear.
