An EXCELLENT example of a South African Defence Force 1980s Special Forces 'Reconnaissance Regt.' Embroidered Beret Badge Type 3. This piece appears to be in a VF/VF+ state of preservation, with detailed Embroidered Graphic Relief on obverse. All insignia present. Minimal Evidence of handling/ age-related wear is visible on surface. Material Surface may display areas of toning / variable discoloration due to age. Substrate materials are intact - and support Embroidered patterns. Reinforced rear panel is present. Structural integrity of Beret Badge is good. All Regimental/ Unit symbology & design features are clear and defined. Compass Rose colour panel configuration appears correct to type. NOTE : Insignia is ex-Mount & will display a degree of adhesive residue on the reverse segment- due to prior display. Item is Second-Hand.
This piece would have been utilised by members of the SA Defence Force - Special Forces Units , namely 5 Reconnaissance Regiment- whose personnel wore the 3rd Type Beret Badge variant from 1987 - 1988. The SA Special Forces Operator's performed a multitude of both , high-risk conventional and clandestine Military Operations within SWA/Angola during this period.
