Napier company was named after its president, James H. Napier, who led the company from 1920 to 1960. The Napier costume jewellery company was founded in 1922 however the story of the company can be tracking back to 1875, when it was founded as Whitney & Rice in Attleboro, Massachusetts, manufacturing silver products. When the company was sold in 1882, it was renamed "Carpenter & Bliss," and soon after, "E. A. Bliss & Co. Inc.". James Napier became president in 1920 and the company adopted the name Napier-Bliss Co. In 1922, the name was changed to Napier Company. Napier is still in business today and a major producer of costume jewellery. Most, but not all, Napier jewellery is simple, lacking fancy ornamentation and embellished glitter of other costume jewellery. The designs are modern and simple in basic geometric forms and floral motifs. Some of the metalwork has a sculpture look somewhat resembling Mexican and Scandinavian silverwork.
