The 1981 Crown (25 pence) was issued to commemorate the marriage of His Royal Highness, Prince Charles, The Prince of Wales to Lady Diana Spencer, on the 29th July 1981.
Charles Philip Arthur George Mountbatten Windsor, the 21st Prince of Wales, was born on the 14th November 1948. He was educated at Cheam in Berkshire, Gordonstoun in Scotland, Geelong in Australia, Trinity College Cambridge, and the University of Wales in Aberystwyth.
On the 1st July 1969, at Caernarfon Castle, Her Majesty the Queen invested Prince Charles as Prince of Wales and the Earl of Chester.
Lady Diana Spencer was born on the 1st July 1961, and christened at Sandringham. She spent her childhood at Park House on the Royal Estate which is only a short distance from Sandringham House.
She was the daughter of the eighth Earl Spencer whose line can be traced to medieval times. Lady Diana was educated at Riddlesworth Hall, Norfolk, and West Heath in Kent. The Spencer family home is in Althorp, Northamptonshire.
