1993 Upper Deck World Cup USA 94 Soccer Collector Cards (124 cards in total) Includes the sought after Andres Escobar card #61. Escobar, the captain of the Colombia men's national soccer team scored an own goal during the 2-1 defeat against the United States and it was reported that members of a powerful drug cartel back in Colombia had placed huge money on that particular match. After his country's exit from the World Cup, Escobar was warned by his friends to keep a low profile for a while. On 2 July 1994, Escobar was murdered while the 1994 FIFA World Cup was still in progress, reportedly as retaliation for having scored an own goal which contributed to the team's elimination from the tournament. His murder further tarnished the image of Colombia internationally.
