First South African democratic election. Most parties contesting a general election.
With Nelson Mandela as A.N.C. leader.
These will not be around for long and cannot be reproduced or reprinted.
The IFP decided to join the general election late thus were added with a sticker at the bottom.
However some ballot paper books did not get the IFP sticker making it impossible for their supporters
to vote for them. There were urban legends going around at the time that many of the votes for the National
Party were meant for the IFP. The story goes that because there were so many parties taking part in this
election many IFP supporters were told to vote for the party right at the bottom. Some ballot papers without the
IFP sticker were thus marked as a vote for the National Party. Before the IFP decided to take part National Party
supporters were also told to vote for the party at the bottom. When the IFP were added at the bottom they found that
they were campaigning for the IFP. URBAN LEGENDS ????
