19th Century Brass Whale Oil Lamp with tools.

A beautifully decorative and historical piece, this fascinating antique brass nautical lamp is an eye catching find for the nautical enthusiast or for anybody looking for an interesting attractive item with old world charm.
This item is something special. They are not that easily found and this one is in very good condition for its age. These lamps were phased out in the mid 1800's with the use of kerosene replacing whale oil as an illuminant. Whale oil was an expensive commodity at the time and only affordable to the rich.
This lamp would have been stood or hung in a ship's cabin, burning whale oil on a wick in the three chambers, casting a faint flickering glow.
The lamp's height is adjustable and drops down by turning the screw.
There are usually 4 tools attached to the lamp on the end of a chatelaine. (Sadly this one has lost its scissors)
- A snuffer for the flame , a hook and a tweezers for adjusting the wick.
There are some age related dents and pitting to the brass but the lamp stands sturdily on its base.
There is no makers mark and the origins are unknown.
Height: 395mm
Width: 100mm
