19th Century Glass "Gin Pig" c1890

 Heading : The Englist term is "Gin Pig" however this is a "Schnappshund"
Date : 1880- 1900
Period : 19th century
Origin : Northern europe, most probably Germany
Colour : Clear
Stopper : Cork with ring pull
Body :  Shapped in the form of a pig and used for gin
Pontil : Polished
Glass Type : Lead
Size : 17.5cm tall and 26cm long long
Condition : Excellent, no chips or cracks.

Zoomorphic forms, most notably from Hukin and Heath, Crichton and Curry were very much the vogue in the late 19th century although German and Bohemian forms are known from the early 18th century.This is without doubt a Schnappshund, modelled on a dachshund
