19th Century Oak Cabinet

19th Century Continental Oak Cabinet, Circa 1870
A striking two-part cabinet crafted in solid oak, dating to around 1870, showcasing intricate Continental craftsmanship.

Upper Section:
Features a prominent outswept pediment above a deeply carved lobed wraparound border, flanked by two majestic lion masks with original brass loop handles. Beneath, a scale-form border encircles the cabinet. The central door is fitted with beautiful leadlight stained glass in hues of amber, green, blue, and red. It opens with a functioning lock and key to reveal two removable shelves. The door is flanked by elaborately carved winged angel masks, lending a regal and spiritual presence.

Lower Section:
Topped by a narrow counter and a matching carved wraparound border with a single drawer, also flanked by lion masks. Below, the panelled cabinet door is adorned with an ornate sunburst motif, square paterae, and a central lion mask. Inside is a removable shelf. The door is framed by lavish carvings of foliage and fruit, above a richly detailed ovolo border with corner paterae. The base stands on a stepped rectangular plinth with four recessed feet.

Condition:
Shows expected signs of age and use: minor splits to the backboard, counter, and leg joints; watermarks to the left side panel; stain loss; edge chipping; scuffs and surface scratches. Two lion masks are present (may refer to duplication or missing counterpartsplease inquire for details).

This is a magnificent collector's piece with bold character and exquisite detailideal as a statement feature in a refined interior or antique collection.
