On 10th of May 1994 Nelson Mandela was inaugurated as the South African State President at a ceremony in Pretoria South Africa . To commemorate the 1994 Presidential Inauguration (the first democratically elected president in South Africa ) the South African Mint minted this stunning 24 carat gold coin. According to the South African Mint 1742 coins were minted.
They were packaged in normal red leatherette boxes as well as an a lesser number of coins packaged in white presentation boxes.

President Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela's inauguration in 1994 marked the beginning of a new era in South Africa 's history. The formation of an open government coupled with the plan for a unique constitution.
