A RARE and sought after example of a  Type 1,  1994 Democratic Election Large South African National Flag. This piece appears to be in a well-preserved state, with material remaining in good order & plastic retention spring-clips in functional condition. Manufacturer & Date marks are evident on label. 

A piece such as this would have consisted of the initial batches of the New South African National Flag ever produced ;  in the run-up to the first democratic elections. The Flag was based on a design  by Frederick Brownell in March 1994 , as an interim option to replace the ensign of the former dispensation. The historical value of this piece can be appreciated by the fact , that the proclamation of the New National Flag by former President F.W. de Klerk was only published on 20 April 1994  - providing Flag manufacturers with only 7 days to produce a sufficient number of items.

The ideal addition to any Pre- & Post-1994 South African Flag collection or display - for the enthusiast seeking a unique period piece.
