Unheated Ruby:
The red ruby, an apt symbol of the sun, usually signifies friendship, loyalty and honor when given as a gift. The ruby, to this very day, remains one of the worlds most sought after and precious gemstones; rivaled by none other than diamonds, emeralds and sapphires.
A large portion of the world's rubies, in the past, have come from Myanmar (Burma), but as of late it would seem as if they have been mined almost completely out of existence; in turn, causing rubies from Myanmar to become even that much rarer and hard to come by in recent years. As a result, the world’s remaining suppliers of rubies, such as Thailand, Cambodia, India, Madagascar and Afghanistan have begun to pick up the slack, and it couldn’t have come at a better time!
Of all the many hues and saturations which find themselves manifest in the wide spectrum of the ruby, “Pigeons Blood,” is quite possibly the most favourable and desired of ruby shades; this variety of stone embodies a dark, lustrous color that is often the first mental image conjured when this gemstone is called to mind.
The unheated ruby is a very precious and rare breed of stone. Seeing as all too many producers, manufacturers, jewelers and wholesalers will often attempt to improve their rubies with treatments, it is all too understandable why these gems are so sought after. Treatments, unless completely necessary or warranted, often have the potential to undermine and jeopardize the integrity of the stone while being set, cleaned or even worn the wrong way; as well as potentially harm the reputations of unsuspicious buyers and sellers alike. An unheated, untreated ruby is worth more in beauty and money that any of other ruby.
