VINTAGE COLLECTION
FERD-PIATNIK & SOHNE - VIENNA XIV, HUTTELSDORFST 229-31
2 SETS OF PLAYING CARDS DISPLAYING HORSES ON THE BACK OF EACH CARD
THE CARDS ARE STILL IN THEIR ORIGINAL BOX
- SEE PHOTOGRAPHS BELOW THE DESCRIPTION -
This beautifully decorated set of vintage playing cards were manufactured by Ferd-Piatnick & Sohne of Austria. They are in excellent condition in their original box, complete with easy lift ribbons for easy removal. The backs of the cards horses - one set has horse racing on his horse and the other set has show jumping over a wooden jump. There is proof that these are indeed vintage / antique cards as they have 3 jokers per pack instead of the modern sets which only have two. I was told when purchasing these that they are around 1900's. Should anyone know otherwise please let me know as I don't want to supply false information
Ferd. Piatnik & Söhne (A. G.) is a Viennese playing card company started in 1824 by Anton Mosser. Ferdinand Piatnik took over in 1843, marrying Moser's widow a few years later. Piatnik's three sons joined the ranks in 1882 adding their names to their father's company name. Ferdinand died in 1885 leaving the successful business to his sons and his widow. By the turn of the 19th century, Ferd. Piatnik & Söhne began to expand, purchasing a sister company known as Ritter & Cie Prague.
