Cyanella orchidiformis Seeds All Cyanella species are native to South-Africa, from sandy or rocky areas. In most species flowers are attractive, with as many as 20-30 flowers per spike or more. Cyanella orchidiformis is an edible bulb that grows to 30 cm tall. The flowers are hermaphrodite (have both male and female organs). Cyanella orchidiformis usually has a flattish rosette of rather broad leaves and few-branched inflorescenses The plant prefers light (sandy) soils. The plant prefers acid, neutral and basic (alkaline) soils. It can grow in semi-shade (light woodland) or no shade. It requires moist soil.
