Common Names: White Kunzea, Poverty Bush or Tick Bush Native to Australia, the Crimson Bottlebrush is an evergreen shrub or small tree. They make excellent and unique garden plants. Their bright showy red flower-spikes appear in summer and autumn and are made up of a number of individual flowers. The pollen of the flower forms on the tip of a long colored stalk called a filament. It is these filaments which give the flower spike its color and distinctive 'bottlebrush' shape. The flowers can be spectacular and are irresistible to nectar-feeding birds and insects. Most often grown as a shrub, Bottlebrush can also be trained as a tree to 4.5 meters. It makes a nice screen or tall hedge. This fast growing variety is frost tolerant to a temperature of -6° Celsius. In colder climates they make for novelty potted plants that can easily be overwintered inside or in a greenhouse. Germination from seed is easy, requiring no special treatment.
