The Mint of Norway issued only a limited number of superior proof medallions in honour of Nelson Mandela's peace price. Most are now in private hands so the value is bound to go up. This piece is an excellent investment given Mandela's stature and popularity amongst collectors. Silver has also done very well as a metal to invest in over the last few years. More so in metallic artworks with excellent craftsmanship such as this. The production values are excellent for a proof coin. The coin is .999 silver. Minted with a polished die and with frosted upper finishes from a special blasted die. Very high proof with nice clean sharp edges and ultracameo finish. I am sure it would get a very high proof rating from any coin grading service. There is a small mark on the leaf of one of the palms reading 999 Ag. Measures 39 mm in diameter.
