2002 50c SA Soccer coin

To celebrate Bafana Bafana's 10th anniversary as South Africa's national soccer team, as well as the Korea-Japan 2002 Soccer World Cup, it was decided to introduce this special 50c circulation coin in the year 2002. The obverse of this coin portrays the new South African coat of arms and the word "Afrika Borwa," the Setswana word for "South Africa." The reverse of the coin features a South African soccer player in action. This will be the first time a sports theme is depicted on a South African circulation coin.
