Obverse

The nine coats of arms of the Austrian provinces surround the "5" of the face value "5 EURO". Around the coats of arms is the inscription "REPUBLIK ÖSTERREICH" (Republic of Austria). The design is directly inspired by the old Austrian 50 schilling coins.

Reverse

The design was inspired by a historic photo of the opening session of Parliament after the 1907 election. It shows the government bench at the front and two officials behind desks above. Opposite are some of the newly elected members of the House. The two oval portraits commemorate Emperor Franz Joseph and Max von Beck Wladimir, who were mainly responsible for the implementation of the reform.

The design is based on an historic photo of the opening session of Parliament after the 1907 elections. It shows the government bench at the front of the chamber with two officials at the desks above. Opposite stand some of the newly elected members of the House. The two oval portraits in the foreground commemorate the Emperor Franz Joseph and Max Wladimir von Beck, who were chiefly responsible for putting the reform through. The small symbol of the Euro and star for Europe marks this coin as part of the international series "European Achievements".
