The famous "Oom Paul" coin press is one of the oldest working presses of its kind in the world. It was manufactured in 1891 and is one of two that was ordered by President Kruger of the Z.A.R. for the minting of South Africa's first locally-produced coinage from 1892.
The press has produced some of the most famous South African coinage through the decades and every year the SA Mint still produces a limited number of specially mintmarked coins to collectors. The coins are encapsulated, comes with a certificate of authenticity, and carries the special "CW" (COIN WORLD) mintmark with an image of the press.
