The Official 2010 FIFA World Cup Commemorative Coin Set

2008

Sterling Silver R2 (Crown) - 33.626 gram

The reverse of the R2 Sterling Silver Crown features the Mpumalanga Province on the right and the KwaZulu-Natal Province on the left.

 24 carat Gold R2 (1/4 ounce) - 7.777 gram

On the reverse of the R2 Gold Coin (1/4 oz, 24 carat) the positions of the two provinces is reversed. Symbols from each provincial coat of arms were incorporated in the design. Mpumalanga is represented by the Kudu Antelope and the Barberton Daisy. The Barberton Daisy alludes to Barberton, the oldest town in the region. KwaZulu-Natal is represented by the Strelitzia Flower, a symbol of beauty, the Lion and the Black Wildebeest.

24 carat Gold R1 (1/10 oz) 3.110 gram

The reverse of the R1 Gold Coin (1/10 oz, 24 carat) features the national tree of South Africa, the Real Yellowwood and the bushman paintings derived from the Linton Panel. The Linton rock paintings, which were discovered at Maclear in the Eastern Cape, are among the most complex expressions of San beliefs. One of the painted figures in the panel provided the inspiration for the central motif of the South African coat of arms. The two figures featured in the coat of arms pay tribute to the San, the oldest known inhabitants of South Africa and are a symbol of unity of the diverse people of South Africa.
