Two privy presses named "Centenary" and "Antarctica" were each fitted with a punch featuring the 90°S mintmark. The silver R2 coins were minted at the South African Mint Company and then sent to Antarctica. Peter van Kets and Braam Malherbe overstruck the 1000 coins at the South Pole
