This bar celebrates the Year of the Dragon, the fifth animal in the 12-year cycle of the Chinese zodiac. It is perfect for people born in "dragon" years - 1940, 1952, 1964, 1976, 1988, 2000 and 2012.
It has a dragon motif on the front. On the back it has Chinese symbols for bravery, power, strength, luck and honesty. Crafted by the APMEX Mint in USA.
Packaged in air sealed plastic sheets. Keeping pieces stored in sealed bags will help prevent oxidation and scratches.
There are various ways to test if something is made of silver:
1. Silver is not magnetic
Knowing this can help you spot fake silver. Use a strong magnet, such one made out of neodymium. If your magnet sticks strongly to the piece, it has a ferromagnetic core and is not silver.
2. Silver is paramagnetic
Hold a silver bar at an 45 degree angle. Slide a strong magnet down it. The magnet will slide slowly. This may seem counterintuitive, but silver is paramagnetic and creates a braking (weak magnetic) effect.
3. Melting test
Silver has the highest thermal conductivity of any common metal or alloy. Place some ice directly on the silver. The ice will begin to melt immediately, as if it has been placed on something hot.
4. Sound test
If it makes a sound like a bell ringing, you have a real silver bar in your hand. If it's dull thump of a sound, it is most likely mixed with other metals.
