he Australian Wedge Tail Eagle is not only one of the Perth Mints best-selling silver coins, but it is also one of Australias best-selling silver coins. This series has been available since 2014 with designs of the wedge tail eagle on the reverse coming from John Mercanti, former Chief Engraver of the United States Mint. Coin Highlights:
Australian Wedge Tail Eagle Coins represent a tremendous competitor to the American Silver Eagle. Although the Wedge Tail Eagle is limited in mintage, the demand for the popular coins often results in a sellout at the mint. In fact, the 2018-2020 coins have all had a 50,000-coin limit as well, and all three have sold out at the mint.
On the obverse side of 2021 Australian Wedge Tail Eagle Silver Coins is the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. A definitive sixth-generation design, it was originally created in 2015 by Jody Clark for the Royal Mint of England to begin using on British coins. The design was adapted for Australian coins to include Her Majestys neckline and shoulders in the portrait, a first for Australian coin portraits of the Queen since 1966. In this design, the Queen is featured at the age of 89 with the George IV State Diadem Crown.
The reverse face of the 2021 1 oz Australian Wedge Tail Eagle Silver comes with the latest design of Australias largest bird of prey. Created once again by John Mercanti, this years design showcases the power of the wedge tail eagle as it flies through the air with its prey in its talons. As the eagle soars through the sky, it gazes down with a deadly glare at the snake it clutches firmly in its talons.
