Spessartite Garnet
Spessartite garnet belongs to the large and varied mineral group of garnet. The fiery sunny-orange stone is growing in demand for its very good hardness and its brilliance due to its high refractive index. Spessartite garnet is commonly cut either in facets or in cabochon and makes an interesting and colourful piece of jewelry. Until the recent discovery of a mine in Namibia, spessartite garnet was rarely seen in jewelry. Today spessartite is found in a number of locations, including Brazil, China, Kenya, Mozambique, Madagascar, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Tanzania. The colour of spessartite garnet varies from a fiery sunny-orange to red-brown. As with the other garnets, it always occurs in a blend with other garnet species.
