STERLING SILVER CROWN: Cape Heritage Collection : Louis XVIII Twenty Francs of 1817
Thirty-five years ago, in 1978, the Africana Commemorative Mint issued the Cape Heritage set commemorating the coins that circulated in South Africa in the very early years of our country.
The Cape of Good Hope was known as “The Tavern of the Seas” as it welcomed many seafaring nations from around the world. This was evident in the multitude of foreign coins that was accepted and circulated at the Cape from the time of van Riebeeck.
Each proof coin weighs 37.3 grams and is 45.0 mm in diameter (much larger and heavier than a Silver Crown or Full Kruger Rand). It is struck in Sterling Silver (92.5% pure silver) and coated in gold.
The coin you are bidding on here is still in its original protective display envelope, never been remove from its holder and is in perfect condition.
