Moth Mullein Seeds Verbascum blattaria is a member of the figwort family that is widely distributed in the U.S. and Canada. It is originally from Eurasia but was spread to the Americas during the early 1800’s. Also known as moth mullein, Verbascum blattaria has pink, yellow or white flowers that appear in summer. The name “moth mullein” derives from the flowers, which resemble moths. Moth mullein starts out as a small rosette of basal leaves that form a large taproot below the ground and eventually a flowering stalk above the ground. The medicinal potential of Verbascum blattaria is not well-known. Unofficial reports seem to indicate that Verbascum blattaria may have sedative and narcotic properties like Verbascum thapsus but to a much greater degree.
