It is a hardy annual or tender perennial native to the Midwest and southern United States. Lemon Mint is a long flowering wildflower with fragrant, curved, tubular flowers in purple to pink. It has the scent of lemon and is excellent as a bedding plant or in the butterfly garden or hummingbird garden. The small petals are white or lavender often dotted with purple and very aromatic with a pleasant, citrus aroma when the leaves are crushed. The leaves can be brewed for tea and, when crushed, can make an insect repellent. The plant is attractive to butterflies and hummingbirds and is also excellent for cut flowers.
