Merremia kentrocaulos or Rough-stemmed morning-glory as it is commonly known is a robust twining or mat-forming perennial with stems up to 10m long. It has 13cm palmate leaves and during summer it bears beautiful pale lemon-tellow flowers with a purple center. The stems and petioles are hairless but covered in small spine-like reddish-brown tubercles. The older stems become woody.
