History:This item is part of a lot that belonged to “The Mother of Albertinia,” Anna Sophia Lourens (née Oosthuizen) who owned the farm Grootfontein near Riversdal in the Western Cape.

According to this source: https://www.geni.com/projects/South-Africa-Towns-and-Cities-inc-Founders-and-Origins/10223, the Dutch Reformed Church bought the farm from her in September 1898 and it was divided into erfs. In 1904, reverend J R Albertyn from the church founded the town which is now known as Albertinia.

According to Anna’s great grandchild on whose behalf this item is being sold, her great grandmother’s grave in Albertinia has a tribute that says: “Here lies the mother of Albertinia.”

Description: Three Voortrekker kappies (or bonnets). The green bonnet shows a lot of wear and tear. The one with the flower pattern is in a much better condition with all the stitching intact even though the colour has faded a bit. The third champagne coloured bonnet is still in a good condition and it seems less used than the other two. Both this bonnet and the one with the flowers have a few tiny reddish stains.
