3 x Dell 6300 servers
#1 - Dell 6300 server - 2 x P2 Xeon 400 processors, 1.5 gb ram, 8 hdd caddies. 2 x 4.5 gb hdd, 6 x 36 gb hdd, optical drive
#2 - Dell 6300 server - 2 x P2 xeon 450 processors, 256 mb ram, 8 hdd caddies. 2 x 4.5 gb hdd, 6 x 9gb hdd, no optical drive
#3 - Dell 6300 server - 2 x P2 Xeon 400 Mhz processors, 1.3 gb ram, no hdd, optical drive, dr4ive caddy with 36 gb scsi drive, not sure if that drive is working
all goes past the POST starting to boot. the 6300 servers has 3 x redundant power supplies, of which at least one in each server is working (used it for testing) Not al the power supplies will be working - I know of one with "failed" written in a marker pen, but I leave it with the server so you can fix it. the memory is on a backplane/pull out expansion card.
Each server can take 4 x processors. For example, you can take the processors of #1 and #3 to have a quad cpu server with 1.5 gb ram and swap the memory of #3 (on a backplane card) with the ones on #2, to make #2 have 1.3 gb ram. Ive found that sometimes the servers are quirky to boot, possibly because I dont gracefully shut down.
#4 - Dell 2300 server - P2 Xeon goes past memory test, then gets complains about a firmware update neede, then hangs up. has memory and processor (think P2 xeon 400 mhz) optical drive. 3 x hdd caddies (of the slimmer caddies). 3 x 9 gb hdd. I dont know if the processors will fit in the dell 6300 servers, I dont think so. uses PC100 ecc memory
Some of the hard drives is marked faulty in a marker pen, but doesnt give errors on POST. I cannot vouch that all the drives would work. Some of the 36 gb drives is thicker than normal drives. Some of the caddies are thicker than normal as well. I didnt test the optical drives or the stiffy drives.
The caddies sells through one of the sellers on bidorbuy for R50 ea. That means the caddies alone will cost you over 800. You can go and buy a server through that seller for R200, then buy these servers with caddies for spares. and you will still have the other working components as spares
The slimline dell caddies will work in some of the later models of dell servers and some of the powervault storage devices. The thicker caddies most likely also can be adapted, as the slimline ones fit in the thicker caddies slots
Buy for spares, buy for playing around, buy for building up
It is heavy, pickup recommended, or you arrange your own courier/pickup
