The title "WG CDR" stands for Wing Commander. It is a rank in the Royal Air Force (RAF) and several other air forces which is equivalent to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the British Army and the Royal Marines, and a Senior Commander in the Royal Navy. A Wing Commander typically commands a squadron or a wing.
"New Sarum" in the Rhodesian context refers to the New Sarum Air Force Base, which was a major military airbase located near Salisbury (now Harare), the capital city of Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe). It served as a key air force base for the Rhodesian Air Force during the Rhodesian Bush War (1964-1979). The base was named after Old Sarum, an ancient hill fort settlement in England, and it played a significant role in the air operations conducted during the conflict.
