How to Make Your Own Brown Sugar

Have you ever started a recipe, only to find that your brown sugar is either dried up and too rock-like to use, or that you forgot that you had already used it up? There is an excellent remedy for this problem--make your own!

Things You’ll Need:

  • 1 cup granulated sugar or turbinado sugar

  • 1 teaspoon molasses (more or less, depending on how dark you need the sugar to be)

  • A bowl, large enough to hold a cup of sugar during vigorous stirring

  • A fork

  • An airtight plastic container

Step1

Pour the sugar into the bowl.

Step2

Add the molasses.

Step3

Stir with the fork. It looks impossible at first, but suddenly, I promise, it will start to mix in and begin to look like brown sugar. Keep going until all the molasses has been incorporated.
