In the previous century, there were four basic types of the R10s issued for the Republic of South Africa.
Firstly there was the huge R10 issued in 1961 & 1962
From the later 1960s to the middle 1970s, the size of note was reduced and the features changed
From the late 1970s until 1990, the features were changed again – these were the last of the Jan van Riebeeck series
During the 1990s the “Big Five” notes were issued with the R10 featuring the Rhinoceros.
