Title: 4 x Tudor Crown Rank Insignia Gilding Metal 1940's British & Commomwealth Forces. Height: 1.4m. Width: 2.5cm. Length: 3.0cm. Info: A set of of Tudor Crown Rank Insignia in a gilded dark finish on brass metal. Many badges were darkened during WW2 to reduce the visibility of the badge. The Tudor crown has been used at various time to indicate rank of a Colour Sergeant, Warrant Officer Class 1, Warrant Officer Class 2 and for Majors. In early days when worn as a collar badge it indicated the status of Commissioned Officer but not a particular rank. Normally worn with a red cloth insert on colour uniforms. The 4 x Tudor Crowns are part of the Militaria Collection of Lt Col AD Irvine who served in the Union Defence Force in North Africa and Europe during WW2 and for the South African Air Force.
