The Mercury was the more Luxurious, More Powerful & Faster Ford Product.

The Mercury, through the Mid 30's , right through the 50's & 60's & up to the early  Seventies  were one of the few Cars in the Upper Mid to almost Top  Luxurious Niche almost equal, or close  to Pontiac. 

Not many Cars could keep up with this Baby & the Pontiac's.

Buick & Cadillac were hardly normal Family Cars,and became very big & heavy in the late 40 's  

Pontiac's were Straight Eight, & the Mercury a V8, Both Side Valve, until 1955. Pontiac went V8 in '55 and both went Overhead Valve in 1955  as compared to the previous Side Valve Engines
