Crocosmia paniculata Seeds

Crocosmia is a small perennial genus in the iris family Iridaceae, native to the grasslands of the Cape Floristic Region of South Africa.

Crocosmia paniculata is a South African indigenous species from the Eastern Cape, Free State, KwaZulu-Natal, Limpopo and Mpumalanga Provinces. Commonly known as Falling Stars in English and Waaierlelie in Afrikaans it grows to 80cm tall and goes dormant in winter.

In summer it bears eye-catching orange-red to brownish-orange flowers. In the Kingdom of Lesotho the plant is used by the indigenous Sotho people as an antidiarrheal remedy, administered not only to humans, but also to cattle so afflicted. These make excellent cut flowers.
